2-3 Minute Read.
Ever kept a food diary? Or a spend diary? See how many donuts you eat, coffee’s you buy or a combination of the two?!
Keeping tabs on how we spend our time is nothing new and has been built in to how most of us operate to some degree. It provides a sense of discipline around areas we don’t want to over extend ourselves (eating too many calories …. spending too much money etc etc).
In both of these examples, there’s a slight negative connotation in that we somehow have to limit our greed, limit things we love to indulge in. Which yes of course has a very practical logic, at the same time it feels a little controlling, you might even say stifling (!).
Have you ever considered thinking through in a practical sense HOW YOU SPEND YOUR TIME each day, and each hour of each day within that? My last ‘quick fire’ was around the choices we make. Think of this as the next level down from that, exploring arguably the most important choice, which is what we dedicate our precious time too.
Have you ever considered that you can architect your future life by being dedicated to how you allocate the minutes in your day? It’s something I’ve been trialling myself lately and I thought I would share with you a few examples from how I’ve been breaking down my day:
- Learning another language.
- Intentional Work.
- Food Prep / Eat Well.
- Read Book / Article / Listen to Podcast.
- Online learning (Digital Garage currently / financial acumen next etc etc).
I have been able to do most of this consistently each and every day, breaking these seven items in to manageable chunks. Please NOTE…I have never in my life been this intentional with my time, but what dawned on me was, imagine if I could operate this way consistently for a long period of time, what the outcome might be cumulatively in say 10 years?!
Word of caution…this should not become a to do list, which feels arduous and like another day. Keep it fluid, explore, be creative, be expansive.
There is a famous quote that has been stolen many times that “You have the same number of hours in a day as [insert successful person]. Perhaps try for a week making some baby steps and being really intentional with your time each hour within each day. It’s working so far for me…let’s see where we all are in ten years!
If you enjoyed this short wire…it would be amazing if you could comment or share.
Thank you.
